The annual Harvest Festival was a great success! On a perfect fall day the grange once again became the place for the valley community to gather and celebrate.
The Man vs. Machine Cut, Split and Stack competition had to be put on hold for lack of a mechanical opponent. It might have just been coincidence, but we had some really strong teams line up and as Tom Barratta says “if you can’t stand the heat get out of the kitchen” Bob Russell went so far as to leave the state! Many folks took a whack at preparing a good amount of wood anyhow though and sure looked like they were having fun.
Pumpkins from the patch were carefully chosen and carved by children and adults alike. Games of ping pong, ladder golf and a hay stack scramble added to the good times. Talented local musicians kept toes tapping and everyone in the mood to party. And then there was the food!
Congratulations to the Chili cook-off winner Barry Rogers for bragging rights to the best darn chili in the Valley, and the Pie bake-off winner, Wendy Kimball for her delicious Pecan Pie. You can find out more about the competition and get their winning recipes here. There were so many incredible dishes, it was a close race, but we all know that the Mohawk Grange has the best pot-lucks in the Valley!
Cleanup was good and fast and we had lots of help, the music was great, the weather was crisp and sunny…what a day!
It was a good time. Thank you Lance for organizing it, Tom & Joan for set up and clean up, and all the people that helped.
It was wonderful to see new faces. What a wonderful group of people.
